Brand and Sustainability

Tom Gyr, a British designer, founded Tom’s Studio, an independent brand renowned for its beautifully crafted, sustainable writing and calligraphy tools. The business began when Tom hand-turned a bespoke brass and Corian pen for his wife, Gemma, a professional calligrapher, offering an alternative to mass-produced plastic pens.

With over 10 billion plastic pens thrown away globally every year, Tom’s Studio aims to combat the disposable culture. Their pens are designed to be "infinitely refillable" and are precision-machined from highly durable, premium materials like solid brass, copper, titanium, and aluminium. This ensures they can be cherished for a lifetime.

The pens are designed by Tom himself and hand-built by his small, dedicated team in their studio in the UK. To ensure the highest quality, they also collaborate with a select group of top-tier global manufacturers to source specific components like specialty nibs.

Product Information

The Lumos (available in Mini, Standard, and Pro versions) is an infinitely refillable fine liner and brush pen designed for artists and writers. Instead of a disposable plastic ink cartridge, it uses a reusable fibrous ink reservoir. It also features interchangeable professional artist tips, ranging from ultra-fine liners to flexible brush tips. allowing you to customise your creative experience using just one pen body.

The Flourish is precision-machined from a solid bar of aerospace-grade aluminium. It is designed to last a lifetime and completely replaces the need for mass-produced plastic holders.

Yes! The straight Flourish features a high-quality stainless steel ferrule (which lasts 10x longer than standard chrome alternatives). It securely fits almost all nibs, big or small. The oblique version features a universal flange for easy swapping.

It is a relatively lightweight pen (weighing around 19g), but the solid aluminium gives it a grounded, high-quality presence. The subtly contoured body is ergonomically designed to rest perfectly in the crook of your hand.

The Bloom’s body is made of anodised aluminium, but it is capped with a solid brass tail. This brilliant design choice shifts the center of gravity to the middle of the pen, offering maximum control and a surprisingly light touch when the nib meets the paper.

Absolutely. While dip pens are traditionally desk-bound, the Bloom was built for on-the-go creativity. If you unscrew the brass tail, you will find a hidden compartment designed to safely store up to three nibs.

Yes! Left-handed users can easily flip the brass flange on the oblique Bloom to position it on the opposite side. You simply use the provided Allen key to loosen the small screw at the top, adjust the nib to your desired angle, and tighten it back into place.

The pen earns its name from its compact, uniquely curvaceous shape. Measuring about 125mm long with a chunky 20mm grip section, it mimics the tapered silhouette of a carrot.

It is specifically designed for calligraphers who suffer from hand fatigue or the dreaded "calligrapher's claw." The wider grip section combined with a noticeably heavier weight means the pen does most of the physical work for you. You barely have to grip it; you just guide it.

Yes. Like the Bloom pen, the oblique Carrot is fitted with a universal brass flange and comes with a tiny Allen key. You can alter the exact angle of the nib to suit your personal grip and writing posture, minimizing snagging and maximizing the "glide factor."

Care and Maintenance

Keep it simple! Wash the body of the pen with warm, soapy water. Always ensure that you dry all parts, especially the ferrule or flange, thoroughly to prevent any moisture from sitting in the metal joints.

Yes, the brass elements (like the tail of the Bloom or the flanges on the oblique models) will naturally develop a unique patina over time, giving the pen character. If you prefer a factory-new shine, a quick polish with a standard brass cleaner will easily restore its original gleam

Refilling is an easy, zero-waste process. Simply unscrew the pen to access the fibrous ink reservoir. Dip the tip of the reservoir into your favorite bottled ink, allowing it to naturally absorb the ink via capillary action. Wipe off any excess ink from the outside of the reservoir, slide it back into the pen body, and you are ready to write.

For Lumos pens, it is highly recommended to use standard fountain pen ink or Tom’s Studio’s specially formulated bottled inks. Do not use heavily pigmented, waterproof, shimmer, acrylic, or India inks in the fibrous reservoirs, as the large particles will clog the capillary system and ruin the tips.

Yes. Just like any standard fine liner or marker, the tips will experience normal wear and tear over time, depending on your writing pressure and the texture of the paper you use. However, instead of throwing the entire pen away, you can simply purchase inexpensive replacement tips and swap them out

Because Tom’s Studio products are built to last a lifetime, the brand stands behind its craftsmanship. They offer support for original manufacturing defects and faults. If you experience a functional issue with your pen under normal use, you can contact support for repairs or replacement parts. (Please note: Warranties typically do not cover accidental damage, normal tip wear and tear, or damage resulting from the use of improper inks).
