Protein Fibres:
Protein fibres are natural fibres made from proteins, obtained from animal sources such as wool (from for example sheep, alpaca or goats) and silk (from silkworms).
Cellulose Fibres:
Cellulose fibres are natural fibres composed mainly of cellulose, derived from plants such as cotton, linen, hemp and bamboo.
The processes of dyeing these fibres with natural dyes is very different for protein and cellulose fibres. Our 1 day workshops cover protein and cellulose fibres on separate days.
Learn the alchemy of botanical colour with a tutor featuring over 20 years of experience, (as featured in The Knitter magazine). Our natural dye workshops cover everything from mordanting to creating vibrant palettes on wool, silk, cotton, and linen.
Our workshops are designed to give you both practical skills and a deeper understanding of natural dyeing techniques.
During your session, you’ll learn how to:
You’ll leave with your own naturally dyed samples and the knowledge to keep experimenting.
